Our aim is to produce a Facial Eczema (FE) tolerant animal with a minimal requirement for drenching which exhibits a high growth rate. 43 years of Ramguard testing and selection for Facial Eczema tolerance, dosing at 0.6mg/kg and GGT testing all young stock in the face of high natural challenge means we have one of New Zealand's most tolerant flocks.
The ewe flock has been on a no-drench policy since 2002. Lambs are on an extended drench interval with selection for those that can perform above average in the face of parasite challenge.
Nikau Coopworth consistently appears on NZMW Leader Lists for Health Traits. A founding member of both FE Gold and WormFEC Gold We select for open faced, open breech sheep, and are targeting sound feet with resistance to scald and foot rot. Clients with a good representation of Nikau Coopworth genetics in their flocks routinely wean above 150 % from MA ewes and 100 % from hoggets.
